Watch your garden spring into life, by shopping an extensive range of the finest plant seeds and bulbs for your garden or consumption. Products available include but are not limited to flax seeds, hemp seeds, Lin-seeds, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, moringa seeds and garlic bulbs. Zambian suppliers ensure that they conduct rigorous tests of seeds and bulbs to ensure that they always provide top quality products. Whether you are looking for flower seeds, vegetable and fruit seeds or flower and vegetable bulbs, you are searching in the right place. Some sellers also supply various garden equipment and accessories to help you look after your plants.

Plant spring-flowering bulbs, such as daffodils, crocus and hyacinths, preferably by the end of September. Plant tulips in November. Plant hardy summer-flowering bulbs, such as lilies, alliums and crocosmia, in September and October.

Seed

  • Collect fresh seed from the spent flowers once they have dried out
  • Sow seed thinly on the surface of seed compost.
  • Cover the seed with sifted compost and top off with a layer of fine grit.
  • Place pots in a cold frame or unheated greenhouse over winter and ensure the compost is always kept just moist.

Unlike seeds, bulbs are plants that actually live under the ground but are visible above the ground when their leaves grow up through the surface. Whereas seeds are only the final stage of a plant's reproduction, bulbs are the entire life cycle of a plant from beginning to end.

If you have a favourite flower bulb that is hard to find, you can actually grow more from the plant's seeds. Growing flowering bulbs from seeds takes quite a bit of time and some know how, but it is cheaper than purchasing bulbs and allows you to save uncommon specimens.

Three to six bulbs are suggested as a minimum number of summer bulbs of the same variety to plant in a grouping. Planting in Small Spaces - Plant bulbs of one colour in small spaces in the landscape. One colour will have greater impact and make the planting space look larger.

When planting in August, it's best to wait until you believe that the last frost is over. The vast majority of the bulbs that bloom in the late summer require sunshine, but make sure to check the instructions for the species that you purchased. Mix in compost and bulb food with the existing soil in your garden bed.

A bulb that comes back every year, often with more blooms than before, is called a perennial. Great examples are daffodils and crocuses. Bulbs that only grown for one season are called annuals, which means that you have to plant new bulbs every year to get the same effect.

Different types of flowering bulbs need to be planted at different depths, but a good general rule of thumb is to plant the bulb at three times the height of the bulb. So, for example, if your bulb is 2 inches tall, you'd plant it 6 inches deep.

Bulb-producing plants are often sold by their bulbs for propagation, though they started from seed themselves at some point in the past. Setting out already-established bulbs of such plants produces blooms faster than starting the same plants from seed.

For most spring bulbs, fall is the most ideal time to plant. This is when we get the cooling soil temperatures that signal root growth. Bulbs that are planted in the fall will establish roots at the base (basal plate) and help it get off to a good start next spring.
