Material Handling Equipment

For the movement, storage, control, and protection of materials,

Material handling equipment is mechanical equipment used for the movement, storage, control and protection of materials, goods and products throughout the process of manufacturing, distribution, consumption and disposal. The different types of handling equipment can be classified into transport equipment, positioning equipment, unit load formation equipment, and storage equipment. Good material handling functions speed up the movement of equipment, assist with mechanical aids, and eliminate manual labour. Automated order-filling stations, electrical material carts, computerized order-picking aisles, overhead cranes, robotic pick and drop systems, and AGVs are some of the material handling applications in the industry.

The four main categories of material handling equipment include storage, engineered systems, industrial trucks, and bulk material handling.

Material Handling Equipment

  • Storage and Handling Equipment - Storage equipment is any equipment used for holding or buffering materials over a period of time (and may include transport) typically they help preserve valuable work floor space. Having enough space to work plays a significant role in product protection, worker safety and lean manufacturing
  • Bulk Material Handling Equipment - One of the most prevalent equipment types in bulk material handling is a belt conveyor. Although many other types of conveyors are available – such as screw, chain and pneumatic – the most commonly used is the belt. Belt conveyors are the backbone of bulk material handling systems in many different processing plants
  • Industrial Trucks - A powered industrial truck is defined as any mobile power-propelled truck used to carry, push, pull, lift, stack or tier materials. Examples include fork lifts, pallet jacks, low lift jacks, etc.
  • Engineered Systems - An engineered system is a system designed or adapted to interact with an anticipated operational environment to achieve one or more intended purposes while complying with applicable constraints.

Material handling systems are used in every industry, including: Aerospace, Automotive, Chemicals, Construction, Consumer goods, E-Commerce, Food, Manufacturing, Pharmaceutical, Retail, Warehousing and distribution.

Put simply, systems engineers analyse organizational systems to find more efficient ways of doing things. Typical activities include: Analyzing system challenges and identify the best solution to meet project needs. Taking a project from conception to completion.

Material handling can improve customer service by making products easy to find, move, and ship out, cut costs by reducing the amount of time spent moving the productsand reduce product damages by properly transporting your products. It also ensures increased safety from permanent and temporary disabilities.

The Four Types of Material Handling Equipment. From shelving, warehouse racking, and mezzanine floors to non-automated equipment such as trolleys and other manual handling equipment, efficient storage solutions improve order fulfilment time and make space for more stock.

Materials handling, the movement of raw goods from their native site to the point of use in manufacturing, their subsequent manipulation in production processes, and the transfer of finished products from factories and their distribution to users or sales outlets.

Material handling equipment is equipment that helps if the movement protection storage and control of materials and products throughout manufacturing warehousing distribution consumption and disposal.
