Further information

Directions

  • For maintenance: take 2 capsules daily with food (This can be increased to 2 capsules twice daily. Consult your health care practitioner.)
  • For older pets and those with skin conditions, allergies, arthritis, low immunity or a lack-lustre coat: mix 1 to 2 doses of Mega Omega Fish Oil into food daily.

This is more than the recommended daily requirement. It also delivers 220mg of the omega 6s gamma-linoleic acid (GLA) and linoleic acid, and 80mg of omega 9 or oleic acid. This all adds up to the optimal omega ratio for you.

OMEGA 3:

Polyunsaturated fatty acids are important for normal metabolism.

What?: The long-chain omega 3s, docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) are considered the most important fatty acids in the omega 3 families. They’re called “essential” fatty acids because, although your body needs them for healthy cellular functioning, it can’t produce them. So they will have to be obtained from the diet or a pure and concentrated fish oil supplement. The Real Thing Mega Omega Fish oil.

Why?: Getting the right amount of EPA and DHA can boost health on many levels – particularly when it comes to:

  • Heart health
  • Brain health
  • ADHD, particularly in kids

Where?: To get the right amount of omega 3 you have to choose the right food and the right supplements – namely omega-3 dense foods like olive oil and oily fish, and mega-concentrated supplements like The Real Thing Mega Omega.

OMEGA 6

is a family of pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory Polyunsaturated fatty acids. The biological effects of the omega-6 fatty acids are largely produced during and after physical activity to promote growth and during inflammation to halt cell damage and promote cell repair.

What?: These omega 3 – such as gamma-linoleic acid and linoleic acid – are also “essential” fatty acids that the body needs but can’t manufacture.

Why?: In the correct ratio, omega 6s work with omega 3s to help:

  • Build brain function and manage ADHD
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Prevent peripheral neuropathy in diabetics, and
  • Help in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and PMS.
  • But the correct ratio is the key.

Where?: Found mostly in vegetable oils and meat, they’re also present in plant-based oils, such as evening primrose oil, borage oil and black currant seed oil.

OMEGA 9

What?: Oleic acid, or omega 9 for short, can be made by the body in small amounts – but only if omega 3 and 6 are present. So this fatty acid is most often obtained through food.

Why?: It helps promote healthy immune function while reducing the risk of arteriosclerosis, heart disease and stroke. Once again, the right omega ratio is key.

Where? It’s found in olive oil, avocados, nuts and borage oil.

A bit of science… what mega omega fish oils can do for you

1. A healthier heart

Research has confirmed it: EPA- and DHA-rich fish oil supplements get to the heart of the cardiovascular system. How? By helping to:

  • Reduce blood pressure
  • Reduce “bad” LDL and triglyceride levels
  • Raise “good” HDL cholesterol levels
  • Lower the risk of thrombosis, atherosclerosis, heart disease, heart attack and stroke
  • Promote recovery post-heart attack
  • Other research has shown that omega-3 fatty acids can help with weight-loss and circulatory problems like varicose veins. They can also bring cardiovascular protection to diabetics, who often have low HDL levels and high triglycerides.

2. A brainier brain

Brain Food. That’s what mom calls it when she’s making fish for dinner. And it’s not just a hard-sell. It’s a scientific fact. This is because, in both children and adults, the long-chain omega 3s found in oily fish, have been shown to:

  • Enhance memory
  • Improve attention
  • Promote concentration
  • Help in the management of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), the most common neurological condition in children
  • Help in the treatment and prevention of conditions like depression, schizophrenia, Huntington’s disease and Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Help reduce symptoms of bipolar disorder in children.

3. More body benefits

The long-chain omega 3s might be most famous for their heart-helping, brain-building effects. But that’s not all. Just like an infomercial. They’ll throw in all of this too.

  • Safer cell walls: EPA and DHA are central to maintaining the body’s most basic security systems – healthy cell membranes that prevent viral invasions and maintain a healthy water, nutrient and electrolyte balance.
  • Harder working nerves: By helping to keep the myelin sheaths around nerves intact omega 3s provide better insulation meaning better signal conduction.
  • Easier breathing: They help asthmatics to breathe easier by reducing inflammation and improving lung function.
  • Better bones and joints: They also ease joint pain and inflammation in conditions like osteo- and rheumatoid arthritis. Plus, EPA can help increase calcium levels leading to better bone density and reduced risk of osteoporosis.
  • Safer sight: Macular degeneration, a disease that can lead to blindness, is significantly reduced by omega 3s.
  • Healthy moms and babies: More than safe for pregnant women and babies, omega 3s can help to prevent premature births, low birth weights and, later, hyperactive children.
  • Hope for mood management: Preliminary evidence suggests they could even help in the treatment of depression and anxiety.
  • Pet protection.
