There are a variety of fruit juices that a person can drink. These include orange juice, cranberry juice, apple juice, and others. 100% pure juice made from the flesh of fresh fruit or from whole fruit, depending on the type used. They contain valuable nutrients, including vitamins and minerals that contribute to a healthy diet. As long as it is 100 percent juice, one-half cup (four ounces) of fruit or vegetable juice is considered equal to one-half cup of fruit or vegetables. Juice can supply many of the vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals found in whole fruits and vegetables.

Fruit juices are usually described as:

  • From concentrate
  • Not from concentrate
  • Freshly squeezed

Serving Fresh Fruit Juice

  • Prepare for serving the fruit juice: A beverage tray.
  • Placing the glass on the tray: The serving glass should be clean, dry, cold and well polished.
  • Serving fresh fruit juice: Always serve ladies first!.
  • Leaving the table: Please enjoy your fruit juice (mention the juice name), sir/madam.

This is a type of fruit beverage which contains at least 10 per cent fruit juice and 10 per cent total soluble solids besides about 0.3 per cent acid. It is not diluted before serving, hence it is known as ready-to-serve (RTS).

Drinking 100% orange juice can be a way to help achieve the recommended amount of fruit needed each day for optimal health. For example, the average person should consume 1 ½ to 2 cups of fruit each day2. An 8-ounce glass of 100% OJ counts as 1 cup of fruit.

Any fruit or 100% fruit juice can make up a serving of fruit. Fresh, canned, frozen, freeze-dried, dried, whole, cut up and pureed fruit all count.

When waiters serve drinks at the table, they must handle the glasses from the bottom. Waiters should never place their hands and fingers near the edge of the glass. Always handle glassware by stems, handles or the bottom of the glass. When serving the table, follow the general rules of etiquette.

Treat juice as you would a dessert, rather than a serving of fruit. Consume it in moderation – meaning a ½ cup (four ounces) or less per day. Avoid flavoured juice drinks and reduced-calorie juices that contain added sugar, flavor, color and artificial sweeteners.
