Machine, Sheet Metal, and Cap Screws. Used in fasteners to hold objects together,

Wood screws are perhaps the single most common type of screw is a wood screw. Machine Screw. A machine screw, as the name suggests, is a type of screw that's used in machining applications. Others are - Sheet Metal Screw, Twin fast Screw and a Security Screw. A screw is a type of fastener typically made of metal and characterized by a helical ridge, known as a male thread. Screws are used to fasten materials by the engagement of the screw thread with a similar female thread, internal thread in the matching part. Screws are often self-threading also known as self-tapping, where the thread cuts into the material when the screw is turned, creating an internal thread that helps pull fastened materials together and prevent pull-out. There are many screws for a variety of materials; those commonly fastened by screws include wood, sheet metal, and plastic.

A screw and a bolt are similar types of fastener typically made of metal and characterized by a helical ridge, called a male thread (external thread).

Screw Types at a Glance – Machine, Sheet Metal, and Cap Screws. Screws are widely used in threaded fasteners to hold objects together, and in devices such as screw tops for containers, vices, screw jacks and screw presses.

Common types of screws.

  • Wood Screw. Perhaps the single most common type of screw is a wood screw.
  • Machine Screw. A machine screw, as the name suggests, is a type of screw that's used in machining applications.
  • Lag Screw.
  • Sheet Metal Screw.
  • Twin fast Screw.
  • Security Screw.

A screw is an externally threaded fastener capable of being inserted into holes in assembled parts, of mating with a preformed internal thread or forming its own thread, and of being tightened or released by torquing the head.

Screw Types

  • Wood Screws. Wood screws are used for basic wood construction and woodwork projects to attach wood to wood.
  • Deck Screws. Deck screws are similar to wood screws with a few extra specificities.
  • Drywall Screws.
  • Masonry Screws.
  • Sheet Metal Screws.
  • Lag Bolts.
  • Hex Bolts.

For screws measured in inches, diameters of 1/4 inch and smaller (for machine and sheet metal screws) or 5/16 inch and smaller (for wood screws) are expressed with a # and a whole number (ex., a screw with a major diameter of 3/16 inch is a #10 screw). Smaller numbers indicate smaller diameters.

The word screw and bolt are often used interchangeably. You will often see smaller fasteners called screws and as they get bigger they are referred to as bolts.

Typically, screws and bolts are made from steel due to its strength and relatively inexpensive cost. However, screws and fasteners can also be produced from stainless steel, brass, titanium, and a wide range of other metals depending on the intended application.

BUMAX® Ultra has proven itself as the world's strongest bolt – in various highly-demanding critical fastener applications around the world where standard fasteners are simply inadequate.

Different Types of Screw

  • Wood Screws. Wood screws are perhaps the most commonly recognised type of screw.
  • Machine Screws. Blunt ended screws with threads, typically made from brass or steel.
  • Thread Cutting Machine Screws.
  • Self Drilling Screws.
  • Hex Bolts.
  • Carriage Bolts.
  • Socket Screws.
  • Set Screws.
