Cutting Tools Examples

  • Alligator Shear. - Alligator shears are used for cutting long metal stock or scrap, generally where accuracy is not an important consideration, and the size or shape of the material makes other cutting or shearing options (such as a cutting torch) impractical.
  • Abrasive Saw. -An abrasive cutoff saw is a power tool that is typically used to cut hard materials, such as metals. The abrasive cut off saw is also great for stainless steel cutting. The cutting action is performed by an abrasive disc, similar to a thin grinding wheel.
  • Bandsaw. - A bandsaw (also written band saw) is a power saw with a long, sharp blade consisting of a continuous band of toothed metal stretched between two or more wheels to cut material. They are used principally in woodworking, metalworking, and lumbering, but may cut a variety of materials.
  • Diamond Saw. - There are many types of diamond blade, and they have many uses, including cutting stone, concrete, asphalt, bricks, coal balls, glass, and ceramics in the construction industry; cutting semiconductor materials in the semiconductor industry; and cutting gemstones, including diamonds, in the gem industry.
  • Tungsten Carbide Steel. - Tungsten carbide is an alloy of tungsten and carbon, made by heating tungsten powder with carbon and hydrogen at 1,400 - 1,600°C (2,550 - 2,900°F). The resulting alloy is 2-3 times as rigid as steel and has a compressive strength surpassing all known melted, cast, and forged metals.
  • Milling Machines. - Milling is the process of machining using rotary cutters to remove material by advancing a cutter into a workpiece. This may be done by varying direction on one or several axes, cutter head speed, and pressure

A cutting tool is a pointed tool mounted in a machine tool and used for cutting materials. Lathes and milling machines use different types of cutting tools. Diamonds are sometimes used in cutting tools because its hardness allows it to cut other hard materials.

  • Kitchen shears and pruning shears.
  • Thread clippers and rotary cutter.
  • Fabric shears and spring-loaded scissors.

Fabric scissors are designed to cut fabric, which has more “give” and resistance than many materials. Fabric scissors are very sharp and will leave a clean cut despite the resistant texture.

The main uses for kitchen shears are the most obvious ones: snipping herbs, cutting open food packaging, and breaking down poultry. These are the types of things I mostly use my shears for, and for good reason: their primary purpose is as a pair of shears!

Cutting skills take time for children to develop. Being able to use scissors to cut well is important for many preschool and school activities including art and craft. Children may have the skills to use small scissors by three to four years of age, but scissor skills are not fully developed until 6 years of age.

These Spring back Scissors have a spring back mechanism that makes it easier for little hands to use scissors. The handle is spring activated, so it automatically "springs open" for assisted cutting.

There are basically three types of hand pruners: bypass, anvil, and ratchet. Bypass garden pruners are probably the most popular, for good reason. This tool makes a nice clean cut using two curved blades that bypass each other in the same manner as scissor blades.

To sum it all up: a rotary paper trimmer is better equipped to handle large-scale cutting tasks while a guillotine paper cutter is better equipped to handle a large volume of paper at once. If you're looking to trim photographs and posters, you should utilize a rotary paper trimmer.

The term "utility knife" may also refer to small fixed-blade knives used for crafts, model-making and other artisanal projects. These small knives feature light-duty blades best suited for cutting thin, lightweight materials.

A rotary cutter is a tool with a very sharp circular blade, mainly used by patch workers for cutting fabric with a special quilting ruler on a self-healing mat designed for the purpose. They are predominantly used for cutting straight edges of fabric.
