WARNINGS:

  • Use in human/animal dwellings, warehouses, and thatch roofs to be applied by registered pest control operators only.
  • Handle concentrate with care.
  • Poisonous when inhaled, swallowed, or absorbed through the
  • skin.
  • Toxic to birds, bees, fish, and wildlife.
  • Flammable – do not store near open flame.
  • Store away from food and feed in a cool well-ventilated place.
  • Keep out of the reach of children and animals.
  • Treated seed is not suitable for human or animal consumption. In case of poisoning, immediately call a doctor and make present this label.
  • Dwellings must be vacated before treating the area.
  • Remove pets, fish tanks and bowls.
  • Dwellings must be properly ventilated before re-entering the area
  • (± 12 hours).

Although this remedy has been extensively tested under a large

variety of conditions the registration holder does not warrant that n

will be efficacious under all conditions. The action and effect

thereof may be affected by factors such as abnormal storage

conditions; quality of water used for dilution, compatibility with other

substances not mentioned on this label, the occurrence of pest

resistant to the remedy, as well as the method, time and accuracy

of the application. The registration holder furthermore does not

accept responsibility for damage to crops, vegetation and the

environment, or harm to man or animal or for the lack of

performance of the remedy due to the failure of the user to follow

instructions or to the occurrence of conditions that could not have

been foreseen in terms of the registration. Consult the supplier in

the event of any uncertainty.

PRECAUTIONS:

  • Do not inhale spray mist of fumes.
  • Use suitable clothing when applying (rubber gloves and facemask).
  • Do not eat, drink, or smoke whilst mixing or applying and wash with soap and cold water after use or accidental skin contact and change clothing.
  • Avoid spray drift onto crops, grazing, rivers, dams, or areas not under treatment.
  • Clean applicator after use and dispose of water where it will not contaminate crops, grazing, rivers, and dams.
  • TRIPLE RINSE THE EMPTY CONTAINER AS FOLLOWS: Invert the empty container over the spray or mixing tank and drain for at least 30 seconds after the flow has slowed down to dripping. Thereafter rinse the empty container three times in succession with one-quarter of the container volume fresh water and decant the rinsate into the spray or mixing tank. Puncture the triple rinsed container and dispose of it via an approved collector or recycler (www.croplife.co.za).
  • Do not bury, burn, or donate the container to any other parties that may use it as a container for food or beverages.
  • Prevent contamination of food, feedstuffs, drinking water, and eating utensils.
  • Mark bags in which treated seeds are stored clearly “POISONOUS”.
  • Do not use in the presence of persons with known sensitivity to pyrethroids. In case of signs of sensitivity obtain medical advice.
  • Wash thoroughly after application.
  • Remove and wash clothing after use

SYMPTOMS OF HUMAN POISONING:

  • Effects of overexposure: The toxin is an organophosphorus cholinesterase inhibitor and may cause headache, fatigue, faintness, giddiness, shortness of breath, dizziness, excessive sweating, nausea, abdominal pains, vomiting, diarrhoea, tightness of the chest, anxiety, blurred vision, muscle twitching beginning in the eyelids and tongue, small pupils, respiratory distress.
  • Inhalation: Avoid inhalation of spray mist.
  • Skin: Avoid repeated or prolonged contact. The toxin is an organophosphorus cholinesterase inhibitor, readily absorbed through intact skin. Contact may cause redness, irritation, and dermatitis.
  • Eyes: Irritating, may cause redness, pain, blurred vision, conjunctivitis.
  • Ingestion: The toxin is an organophosphorus cholinesterase inhibitor; may cause symptoms as listed under “Effects of overexposure”.

FIRST AID TREATMENT:

  • Inhalation: Remove patient from source of poisoning to well-ventilated area and keep him quiet and reassuring. If necessary, administer artificial respiration and oxygen or closed-chest cardiac massage.
  • Skin: Immediately remove contaminated clothing, wear rubber gloves to avoid contact with contaminated clothing, rinse the affected skin area with plenty of soap and cool water or shower.
  • Eyes: Immediately wash eyes with copious amounts of clean water for at least 15 minutes, cover with a sterile pad.
  • Ingestion: Keep the patient calm and reassured, put in the recovery position, rinse mouth with water. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. DO NOT apply direct mouth to mouth respiration, rather use a disposable protective mouthpiece. Persons attending the victim should avoid direct contact with the vomit, wear rubber gloves and protective clothing.
  • SEEK MEDICAL ASSISTANCE.

NOTE TO PHYSICIAN:

  • Administer Atropine sulphate, intravenously (1 to 4 mg) every 5 to 10 minutes until signs of atropinisation, (dry flushed skin and tachycardia); 2-PAM 50 mg/kg up to a total dose of 1 to 2 g or two thirds of this dose of Protopam. Repeat oximes if necessary. Do not administer morphine.

RESISTANCE WARNING:

For resistance management purposes SUPER GUARD 50 EC is

classified as a Group Code 1B + 3A insecticide. Any insect population

may contain individuals naturally resistant SUPER GUARD 50 EC and

other Group Code 1B + 3A insecticides. The resistant individuals can

eventually dominate the insect population if these insecticides are used

repeatedly.

SUPER GUARD 50 EC or any other Group 1B + 3A insecticide may

not control these resistant insects. To delay insecticide resistance:

  • Avoid exclusive repeated use of insecticides from the same insecticide Group Code.
  • Alternate or tank mix with products from different insecticide Group Codes,
  • Integrate other control methods (chemical, cultural, biological) into insect control programmes. For specific information on resistance management, contact AVIMA(Pty) Ltd.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE: Use only as indicated.

  • Stored wheat, maize, and beans.

Application to grain stored in bulk

For the control of Confused Flour Beetle, Saw Toothed Grain Beetle,

Rust Red Flour Beetle, Rice Weevil, Maize Weevil, Flat Grain Beetle,

Lesser Grain Borer, Indian Meal Moth, Tropical Warehouse Moth,

Angoumois Grain Moth and Mediterranean Meal Moth in wheat, maize

and beans.

  • 1. Dilute 3 litres Super Guard 50 EC with 100 litres water. Water pH must be between 5 and 7.
  • 2. The application rate of the diluted pesticide may be determined by using the following calculation:

[Grain Flow (kg per hour) × 85] / 55 000 ml per 10 seconds to give a nominal residue of 8,6 mg/kg Pirimiphos Methyl and 1,6 mg/kg Permethrin.

  • 3. Apply the diluted pesticide uniformly to the grain stream as the grain is loaded into storage.

Residual surface application

For the control of the insects as listed above in warehouses, mills, silo bins, elevators, ship holds rail trucks, lorries, etc. Dilute 400 ml Super Guard 50 EC with 20 litres water and apply this to 100 m2. Spray before loading or filling.

Application to wheat and maize seed destined for planting

For the control of the insects as listed above, in wheat and maize seed. Dilute 4ml Super Guard 50 EC with 1 litre suitable fungicide solution and apply this to 100 kg seed grain.
